Welcome everyone to the first client spotlight post!
I’d like to introduce you to Adam Berkelmans, founder of The Intrepid Eater, a website dedicated to sharing all aspects of food. From preparation to history, hunting techniques to harvesting, Adam covers it all!

Who are you? What do you do?
I am an adventurous food lover who enjoys immersing myself into every element of finding, hunting, fishing, farming, growing, processing, cooking, teaching, sharing, and most importantly eating food! I am now hoping to share my love, passion, and extensive knowledge of everything food related with those who will listen by becoming an ambassador of real, healthy food.
How’d you get started?
I’ve been cooking since I was 7 years old and have always been an explorative and adventurous eater. I spent my teenage years learning new cuisines and how to cook, forage, and grow food. In adulthood, I split my time working in the conservation field, and in the food industry, in many disparate roles. I’ve finally combined them into a passion project that mixes natural knowledge with cooking skills which I can share with others.
What do you want people to know?
That good, real, healthy food is within their grasp. Food shouldn’t be an afterthought, but a way of life that benefits everyone doing their part in the system. By bringing back the true enjoyment of eating and sharing real food, not processed crap, I believe we can fix many of the nutritional woes of today’s society.
What are you working on next or what’s the thing you’re most excited about?
I’m working on building up a collection of Youtube videos to further help people with cooking and food exploration. It’s a challenging new area for me, but will hopefully prove to be lots of fun!
Favourite recipe/book/author: That’s a tough one! I have over 150 books on food, cooking, and food/travel writing to choose from. Though it is becoming cliché to say it these days, Anthony Bourdain was probably the most influential for me. He gave voice to the vague feelings and opinions I had about food swirling around in my teenage brain, and crystallized my notions on what good food was. His respect for the disenfranchised people around the world and their connection with food also stuck with me in a powerful way. I also love to write and hope that food writing becomes an integral and sizable part of my new business.
Other interesting facts: I’m lucky enough to live in a cozy cottage on a lake in Eastern Ontario with my wife, where I have lots of opportunities to grow vegetables, fish in the lake, hunt for deer, turkey and waterfowl, and forage for wild edibles and mushrooms. I am very thankful to be able to live this lifestyle!
I know I’ve learned so much from Adam already, I can’t wait to learn more!
